A Royal Affair

We were asked by Tessa Wolff of Salt Lake Bride and Groom Magazine to put together an inspiration board of florals that would be fitting for Kate Middleton's bouquet. This is what Branches envisioned.

This bouquet is a reflection of Ms. Middleton herself: a classic beauty. I chose a muted palette of the palest pinks, creams and touches of champagne and antique golds, and a bouquet full of lush blooms. The result is a bouquet that’s feminine with a touch of stylish flair–just like the princess-to-be.

Blooming Tuesday

As a florist I struggle trying to get Brides to think outside the "gerber daisy" box. After long thought and reflection, I came to the conculsion that Brides dont have the proper knowledge of flowers to make an informed decision and gerber daisy's is one of the most common flowers they know. So I will take it upon myself to burst the "gerber daisy" bubble and inform my brides of just how many better options there are out there.
In order to help brides better recognize the vastly large amount of blooms that are available to them...we have come up with an informative weekly segment called
Blooming Tuesdays

Each Tuesday we will compose a new post on a unique bloom. These posts will include which season the bud will be available as well as a tips on flower care. This week we will focus on the:

Rose

With Valentines Day's just around the corner we thought why not give some insight into alternate varieties of roses. The rose is available all year long and one of the most traditional and classic flowers available. The rose comes in numerous colors and shades. Some varieties that our readers may not be familiar with are the garden rose and spray roses.

The spray rose. Perfect with its tiny little ruffles and delicate demeanour. The spray rose comes on a single stem with 3-5 heads per stem.

The garden rose. Most varieties are vary fragrant and  resemble a peony with their large open heads and and large petal count. Some of my favs for sure but be prepare to pay. These blooms are more expensive than the reglaur stemed rose by almost double.

Andrea Martin

Andrea's wedding was on a snowy day in late December. I like that Andrea decided to stray away from winter colors and op for a brighter more cheerful palate.

Bouquet was arranged with yellow ranucs, yellow roses, two tulips varieties, football mums and hypericum berries.

Most adorable bout was a yellow ranuc and some blue wire detail.

Speaking of bouts- I thought I would give a little insight as to the arrangement of my boutonnieres. Boutonnieres are made for men- men are not head over heels in love with the idea of wearing a flower. In fact most of the grooms that i come into contact with don't even care if they have a flower. I get the o so common phrase "Nothing Big". This is reflective as to why my boutonnieres are small in size. Men don't want a large flower overtaking their left shoulder.
So now when you look at my boutonnieres in their small simplicity- you will have a inclining as to why.

Spring in Winter

A few pics from Andrea's bridals bouquet along with a little floral insight.

As I was discussing with Andrea and her fiance- the different types of flowers in her color palate, we came across tulips. Andreas Loves Tulips. Me being pretty knowledgeable in flowers and their peek seasons, I explained that though they would be a little more expensive, we would still be able to get tulips. This made Andrea very happy, as she was told by a previous florist that tulips are not available in December and her dream of yellow tulips would have to be replaced by an alternate bloom.

So here is the lesson:
People- hire a Professional Florist! A pro florist will have a plethora of knowledge just waiting to be accessed. They will know the season, color and types of flowers that fit appropriately with your theme and will know which blooms can be substituted in cases of unavailability due to season changes. Tulips are usually a spring flowers but available all year long. Crucial info for a florist don't you think?
Take for instance the peony...... awe the peony!!! Peonies are on of my personal favs but as we know only grace our presence in late April through mid June. So what to do when that bride just has to have a large bloom with ruffles and a heavenly scent- enter a Professional Florist here. A pro wold know that garden roses have 2 out of the 3 characteristics of a peony and are at our disposal all year long.

Luckily for Andrea we crossed paths and we were able to incorporate her favorite flower for her big day.
